A Valentine's delight...
So last night I had the pleasure of seeing Music and Lyrics, the movie starring Drew Barrymore and Hugh Grant, on its opening day. If you don't know the plot, it's about an 80s pop has-been who teams up with his lyrically talented plant waterer to write the music and lyrics to a new song for the world's biggest pop princess. Drew and Hugh were on point and their chemistry was super fun. The movie had a ton of great jokes, and if I had a good memory I would still be quoting them today. I mean the plot was a little strange and maybe missing something in the middle, but it was a romcom and so all was forgiven. The supporting cast was great, especially Haley Bennett (who plays the pop star) and Kristen Johnston (from 3rd Rock from the Sun). My favorite part of the movie was the music. The song "Pop! Goes My Heart," which was supposed to be an 80s classic in the movie, and certainly is as catchy and corny as any of the real tunes of that decade. The modern pop star in the movie ",Cora," also has some amazingly comical pop hits. She is obsessed with Buddhism and also being a sexy dancer so she combines both in her music. The best one is the song "Buddha's delight"----you can guess what that was about. Definitely a fun date movie---not that I have any idea about that!
