Endless Love by Bush featuring Blair

Whoever created this definitely had too much time....but it's still rather amusing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UtEH6wZXPA4

Take Control!

When we were sailing around the islands off the coast of Florida I heard a song twice on the radio that I hadn't heard before and I couldn't place exactly who it was, but I knew it was amazing. Luckily, I figured it out and you ALL need to check out the new Amerie track "Take Control." You can view the video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HUHEyCCztGo The video has a cool concept and contains references to the 60s cult film Blowup. The track is actually produced by Amerie herself, her manager and also Cee-Lo from Gnarls Barkley. This song should be huge!

Florida, holla!

Last week I spent the week in Florida with Caroline, Jenny, and Joe. We had such a good time and the weather was absolutely amazing. We spent most of the trip at the beach or by the pool. We also went sailing and on an air boat in the Everglades, where we saw alligators. The trip wasn't all perfection, however. When Jenny and I were swimming in the ocean, suddenly we saw a fin! The two of us let out screams of "SHARK! SHARK!" and ran from the water. That's when the whole beach turned to look at us and then two 8 year old's came up to us and told us that it was actually a dolphin. That was only the first of my screams on the trip. When we were eating the sandwiches on the beach a seagull grabbed mine from my hand! I let out a bloodcurdling scream and all the seniors looked at me. Jaya also met up with one night since her hometown was pretty close. Probably our favorite trip pastime was probably listening to the CDs that I made for the car on the trip. My taste in music rubbed off on everyone and soon we were listening to "Somethin Kinda Ooh" by Girls Aloud (Galoud) and "You Spin Me Round" by Jessica Simpson on repeat...what a glorious trip!

Ugly...Is In!! (In Television anyway)

If you haven’t seen Ugly Betty, you’d really better start tuning in. You can actually watch all of the episodes in their entirety on abc.com right now, so check, check it out! It’s definitely one of the best new shows on television. The script is extremely witty and smart so I like die laughing every time. My favorite moment happened on the Thanksgiving episode when two of the characters start singing “Dreamgirls” in designer gowns. I almost died, it was two of my fave things are once…Ugly Betty AND Dreamgirls! The filming is also rather different and interesting, which is pretty refreshing to see. They use a lot of space in the shots and play with depth and color palettes frequently. All of the humor has a mystery underlying it all, but the mystery seems really forced and stupid, which would be my only real critique of the show. I also don’t know where the show is headed, since a lot changed in the last episode before the winter break. I can’t wait for more!! The critics agree as well and the show is up for (and favored to win) two golden globes. Check out : http://theenvelope.latimes.com/columnists/env-buzzmeter-iframe-index,0,2003329.htmlstory if you want to read more buzz about the golden globes. We shall see if it wins Best Comedy Series or Best Actress in a Comedy series for America Ferrera!

The phenomenon that is....Dreamgirls

So I was surprised when I was visiting home in MA that not everyone had heard of Dreamgirls and was dying to see, since it was so hyped up but everyone in NYC. Luckily, I was able to drag one unsuspecting friend to see it. She had no idea what to expect and thought that it was going to be a VH1 “movies that rock” type film. In reality, it’s definitely one of the best films of the year. The performances are astounding! Jennifer Hudson(Judson) will blow you away with her singing. In High School, I always expected big things from her when she was on Idol, so I’m glad she’s now getting the chance. It’s definitely going to be a stiff battle for Best Supporting Actress at the Golden Globes with her up for it, especially against Emily Blunt from The Devil Wears Prada.
Beyonce is actually really good too. I was skeptical at first because of all the buzz about how much better Judson was. Beyonce said she had a hard time holding back the power in voice, which at first I thought was just trying to cover up her sucking. After seeing it you can really see that she does hold back her voice to fit the part of Deena, that is until she finds her voice in “Listen,” which is an amazing track.
Basically every song in the movie is great and the storyline is really interesting. In the movie version, they’re able to hit more of the social issues of the times, which adds a lot of depth to it in comparison to the stage show. I do have to say that I think the cinematography of Chicago was better than in Dreamgirls. On seeing it a second time, there were definitely some interesting filming choices that I had missed the first time, but nothing like in Chicago. For this reason I don’t think it will win the Oscar like Chicago did, but I wouldn’t rule it out completely. Definitely go out and get the soundtrack if you haven’t already! If you would rather just get a few tracks from iTunes my favourites are :
*And I’m Telling You I’m Not Going
*Listen
*Dreamgirls
*Love You I Do
*One Night Only
*Move
or really just get the whole thing!!
